생각은 하되 말은 삼가라

허황된 생각은 행동으로 옮기지 마라

친구를 사귀되 잡스러워서는 안되고

일단 사귀기로 마음먹은 친구는

무쇠테로 네 영혼에 묶어 두어라

애숭이 친구들과 더불어

세상 즐거움에 빠지지 마라

싸움을 하지 말 것이나

일단 싸움을 하게 되면 너를 두려워 하도록  

단단히 맛을 보여주어라

Of entrance to a quarrel but, being in,

주머니가 허락하는 한 옷은 비싼 것을 입어라

부유해 보여야 하나 지나치게 화려해서는 안된다
